\F2\CCURRICULUM VITAE

\F2\CThomas O. Binford

\JI am an adjunct professor of Computer Science at Stanford University.
I have been at Stanford since 1970, working in the Artificial Intelligence
Laboratory, lead by Professor John McCarthy.

I lead the robotics group in research in computer vision, manipulation, mobile robots,
and geometric modeling. The group has been perhaps the world's best over the last
five years, with leadership in the areas of intelligent vision systems,
geometric representation, stereo vision and feature estimation, programming
systems for robots, force control, and kinematic analysis and design.
We collaborate with Professor Bernard Roth in Mechanical Engineering on kinematics
and design, and with
Professor Robert Cannon in Aeronautics and Astronautics on dynamics and control.

My own strengths in research are in computer vision and artificial intelligence
in manufacturing, especially intelligent inspection and vision systems with
geometric reasoning,
intermediate level industrial vision systems, theoretical analysis of
three-dimensional inference of shape from stereo and monocular cues,
geometric modeling and CAD, estimation theory for edge detection,
high level programming systems for robots, and dynamics of manipulators.
I am interested in participating in organization of a strong interdisciplinary
program in
manufacturing, in the areas of CADCAM, inspection and robotics, especially
sensing and software human interfaces.

I was previously at MIT in the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory from
1967-1970, in the same areas of research. In addition, I was involved in
system development of the LISP programming language.\.
